Jiu-Jitsu

Clay Lonis - Way 1: You don't have to throw one punch.

Most people, especially under the influence of alcohol, do not know how to throw a punch. Most people will swing wildly which usually results in a drunken tumble or a broken hand. Brazilian Jiu-jitsu utilizes various take downs that incorporate other arts like sombo, judo, and wrestling. These take downs become even more effective on anyone who is intoxicated. Once they are taken down you are able to control them effectively using hip pressure and wrist control. This control will either keep them there till they calm down, or it will keep them held down until they tire themselves out.

Way 2: Your weight and their weight doesn't matter

Its inevitable that there are going to be meat heads that will be out at the same bars/clubs as you. These guys will become quickly intoxicated and become dangerous rather quickly. These guys will have a fair amount of confidence because of their size and will also be with women probably. These two catalysts will want to impress their friends and will often look for fights. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu can save you because not only will you have take downs and control as previously mentioned, but you also will have submissions. Submissions allow you to effectively neutralize an opponent using either a choke or a joint lock. Suddenly their weight and your weight doesn't matter because they have either a broken appendage or they are passed out because of a choke.

Way 3: Your conditioning and lifestyle will help you

As a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner, you will have days at practice where you will be pushed to your mental and physical limit. Hours of wrestling and drilling will wear you down and you will wake up in the morning far passed sore. This is all designed to condition your mind and body to handle stress no matter your physical condition. If you are truly dedicated to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, you will also be less likely to drink to the point where you're incoherent. You will also be less likely to actually engage in a fight. You're put in a situations over and over again that will stress you out mentally during practice. So the stress of a some drunk person at a club yelling at you will have little effect on you. More than anything Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a self-defense art. It is designed to protect you when you're faced with a dangerous confrontation.
